Brian Perkins of Dirigo Strategies, LLC recently attended the annual
Surface Navy Association’s 34th National Symposium in Washington, DC. Brian represented two of our Maine and three overseas NATO clients while participating in forums and events.
The Symposium is always one of the largest maritime defense conferences in the United States, and this year it was one of the first such in-person shows offered with 2,000 people in attendance. All were required to prove vaccination prior to entering and then observe masking, social distancing, and heightened hygiene practices. This year’s conference focused Arctic naval operations and recent challenges with China and Russia.
Brian met with the Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, ADM Karl Schultz, to highlight products of interest on behalf of two clients. He also met with Navy and Coast Guard officers in charge of requirements and small business activities on behalf of others and helped with the introduction of clients to large corporations with a long history of supporting both military services. Upon return he assisted clients in adjusting their marketing strategies to better connect with key people, affecting the success of their individual sales efforts.
The Symposium allows corporate members and sponsors to display their latest technology in support of missions; and provides a forum for discussing critical service issues and new developments while facilitating interactions between government and industry. Although there was a smaller attendance than pre-Covid shows, most key buyers and sellers did attend and booths for next year are expected to sell out by summer.
